The Old Familiar

When your security is threatened ….and you feel helpless, hopeless, frustrated, scared and attacked ….where do you turn?
Do you go into “survival mode” and retreat back to old familiar habits and ways?? Do you do the, ” I can handle this…. I TAKE CARE OF ME.…NO ONE ELSE DOES!  I’M THE ONE WHO PROTECTS ME!”?
Or maybe you run for the hills back to what you know even if you know it’s outcome is NOT AT ALL WHAT GOD INTENDS FOR YOU??  Familiar can sometimes be deadly when things aren’t in their proper perspective!
Interestingly, the word security is defined as:
1. The state of being free from danger or threat, TO FLEE TO FOR PROTECTION (Strongs Concordance)
2. A private police force that guards a building.
I find it really interesting that the word “security” describes a very familiar picture of Christians sometimes…. we police our … Continue Reading

Havsies

Havsies….

Ok, so there’s really no such word as havsies….but ya know when you were a little kid and you had something you were gonna share with a friend….you’d do “havsies”…..split it up??? Each got a piece or portion? Each piece COMPLETED the whole.
Well, more recently my husband and I were out on a beautiful motorcycle run with some friends of ours. Now, those of you that ride know there is LOTS of thinking, praying and just talkin’ to God time…. it’s a perfect time to reflect on God’s goodness and all He’s spoken to your heart!
I got to thinking about the amazing GRACE we all have available to us… yet, so many Christian’s do not have any idea about grace at all! God tells us in His word (His instruction book) in 2 Corinthians 12:9 Paul is speaking….he says, “but He (God) said to me, MY grace … Continue Reading

Contending

Have you been contending for something?? Is there something in your life or your loved ones life that needs transformation? Is there an area of weakness that you just cannot seem to get victory over? Maybe a lack of character in some area, maybe a negative, unhealthy perception of yourself, maybe a need for a love outside of God being your first love?  Well, good news…..God is our transformer!! He wants to change us….remember the bible tells us we go “from glory to glory”. So let’s go to a new level of glory today!

Let’s take a look in the book of Genesis chapter 32 verses 22-32, where Jacob “wrestles” with God. Here, Jacob is in fear for his life, he’s about to have an encounter with his long lost brother. The background on Jacob was that he deceived his father and stole his brother’s (Esau) birth right 20 years … Continue Reading

Prayer – A Natural Place

I am one of those people that is continually reading and looking for God to speak. If you are desperate to hear God…..He will show up everywhere!! With that said, I have a newsletter that I receive every month called the Herald of his Coming (amazing articles that will both confirm the word of God in your life and help you grow in the word). This article caused me to pause ….I wanted to share this with you because it seems like life gets moving in so many different directions and sometimes we lose our footing. So here’s a little nugget for the day.

Charles Spurgeon, a great man of God, was quoted as saying, “the prayerless soul is a Christless soul.” It got me thinking…. You ever notice that when you’re in a good place of communicating with God, I mean spending time with him, reading the … Continue Reading

Lean

As I walked into my daughters house, my little grandson ran up to me sooooo excited, his eyes so expressive…. He said, “Nonna, Nonna(that’s me), Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and DO NOT (he emphasized) lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). He was so excited and so passionate about knowing this passage.

Makes me stop in my life and think… even when things aren’t looking too positive, even when things are discouraging, even when it looks completely opposite of what you know it should be….Do I really, truly TRUST my God? Do I really, truly KNOW He’s got this for me? Do I lean on Him or do I lean on MY OWN UNDERSTANDING in this situation?? Ask yourself today….Am I leaning on HIM??? Am I willing to acknowledge God in this so He … Continue Reading

Expecting?

I have been stuck on this very simple but VERY PROFOUND truth in the word of God. Many of you, I’m sure, are very familiar with it but lets just stop and absorb it a minute……

The Greatest in the Kingdom –  Matthew 18:1-4, “At that time the disciples came up and asked Jesus, Who then is really the greatest in the kingdom heaven? And He called a little child to Himself and put him in the midst of them, And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children (trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving), you can never enter the kingdom of heaven at all. Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child (trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving) is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Now, once again, I will and probably always will, have to … Continue Reading

Bread Crumbs

Last message I mentioned that there were two points I wanted to cover from the passage Exodus 16.  Point number one was REMEMBERING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS and all the good God does daily for us! To keep our eyes on HIM and not the wilderness at hand.

Now, let’s remember that the Israelites had been on their journey from Egypt for one month.  Rescued by the hand of the Lord with mighty miracles!  The Lord has recorded this journey to instruct us that we might learn!! So let’s learn from this.

This second point, though there are many (I will resist from rabbit trails), is ABSOLUTELY necessary in our daily walk with God!

Let me back track just a moment and give us the lay out. Exodus 14 is the escape and deliverance through the Red Sea. They have witnessed one of the mightiest miracles of a life time along with … Continue Reading

Good Good Father

One thing I truly love is doing character studies! I find it so fascinating WHO God chooses to use! The nuggets of wisdom can be life changing. Recently, I have found myself back to studying Moses once again (for about the zillionth time). Studying his life and the Israelites can be an endless treasure of insight into God, ourselves, and the lengths He goes to show us how relentlessly He cares and loves us!!

As I read Exodus 16, a familiar passage of scripture to many….I am reminded of God’s instructions to the Israelites. There are two main points I’d like to share about this passage….so today we will cover the first.

Point number one, chapter 16 picks up where the Israelites have been on the move for 1 month.  Now, let’s remember they have been miraculously cared for and “carried” by God Almighty!! They are first hand witnesses to … Continue Reading

Dominion Minded

As we come into this Easter weekend let us be truly mindful of our Lord and Savior’s death and resurrection.  That HE truly has died and resurrected and given us eternal life with HIM! And that HE is seated in the heavenlies next to God our Father, the Father of all things!!! Now I know most people already know thisbut honestly, lets really stop and thoughtfully pause about this miraculous, saving gift that is far above all principalities and powers and any name that is named! Remember, He is the head, we are the body, and we are sitting together, taking dominion together, for the gathering of God’s children!!!!

Before reading this portion of scripture, understand the punctuation in this passage can be a little lengthy.

Ephesians 1:17-23
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of Continue Reading

Building Character- Self-Control

Take a breath….this is a longer one… but well worth it……

Self-control….the final and probably the most struggled with “fruit”. When we think of self-control I’m sure we all have immediate, obvious individual areas of struggle that pummel our thoughts. We each have “areas” of weaknesses that the enemy of our souls is very very aware of. And if you’ll notice, he will happily bombard our lives so as to get us to lose control in that very area of weakness. Let’s look at a couple scriptures that can surely help us grow and produce mature fruit in this area.

Luke 9:23, “And He said to them all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him DENY himself, disown himself, forget and lose sight of himself and his own interests, REFUSE and give up himself and take up his cross DAILY and follow me (cleave steadfastly to Me, … Continue Reading
