Not Finished Yet
Happy (Belated) Easter Everyone!!! Was trying to get this out sooner… But ….. LIFE HAPPENS!
Our REDEEMER LIVES!!!!!
Just a little nugget for y’all……
I had someone reach out and ask a question that I thought was very appropriate during our continued remembrance of this season of Jesus resurrection so I thought I would share it with you!
The question was, “Why was Jesus garments laying on the ground in the tomb, but the handkerchief that was over his face was neatly folded and set on the stone where Jesus was laid”? John 20: 6-7 tells us that the napkin that was placed over Jesus face was not thrown aside like the grave clothes. John 20:7 tells us that the napkin was neatly folded and placed at the head of the stone where Jesus had been laid. In order to understand the significance of this one must have some understanding of the Hebrew culture and tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and the servant. All young Jewish boys knew and understood this tradition. The tradition was that the servant would set up the table exactly as the Master expected. Perfectly to his expectations. Then the servant would wait out of sight for the Master to eat and finish his meal.
At this point if the Master was finished eating, he would rise, wipe his fingers, wipe his mouth, and wipe his beard, wad up the napkin, and toss it on the table. This then would signal the servant that he was able to clear the table. In their culture, the wadded up napkin meant “I’m done”!
Now, if the Master got up from the table and folded his napkin neatly and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table because the folded napkin represented “I’m not finished yet”, the folded napkin meant….
“I’M COMING BACK“!!!
So in understanding this tradition, and understanding the foreshadowing of what Christ did on the cross to save us ….. we can see his promise in the folded up napkin foreshadowing Jesus return….. that “HE WAS NOT FINISHED YET ….BUT IS RETURNING FOR HIS CHURCH!” Hallelujah! The scriptures tell us in
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, “for the Lord himself, will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
What beautiful insight we are given in the Word of God to help us see the truth, inspire us to continue in our faith, and look for our Lord’s return!!!!
He is coming back …..are you anticipating his return?
Blessings!!!
