Trust God and Do Good
These past couple of years of many ups and many downs has lead me to ponder and remind myself …. Though I walk through this life, in darkness and hardships, and in light and great joy, no matter the circumstances…. I choose to “Do Good” until….
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on HIS FAITHFULNESS. Delight your self also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37: 3-4)
These scriptures have stirred in my heart for weeks now. I believe God is reminding us to CONTINUE! Let’s take a look at verse 3 it starts out “Trust in the Lord, and do good…” Our trust in God grows when we as believers FEED ON and REMEMBER His faithfulness in past times of trouble. We meditate on how God has faithfully brought us through each time NO MATTER the circumstances! It reminds me of the Israelites, how God brought them through over and over and over as they were making their way to the promised land. Unfortunately, they made the choice to sit down, complain and grumble rather than REMEMBER and have grateful hearts for every step of the journey!! They never made it to the promised land! We, on the other hand can learn from this. We can acknowledge the trial or hardship and CONTINUE to “trust God and do good” WHILE MOVING THROUGH to the other side. The Bible teaches us to not be surprised with the times of trouble and hardships that we will encounter as we walk with Him. 1 Peter 4:12 tells us, “ Beloved, do not think it is strange concerning the fiery trials, which is to try you, as though some STRANGE THING happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings….”. So first, let’s clear this up… The Bible is teaching us to not be surprised that we would have times of trouble, trials and suffering. Verse 13 continues and says.” but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings…” Peter makes it very clear that as Christians we will endure fiery trials. With that in mind, let’s remember Psalm 37:3-4. As the children of God, we know and understand we are going to have trials and hardships throughout our journey’s here on earth. No where in the Bible does it say we will escape these hard times. And according to psalms 37, “Trust in the Lord, and do good”… our every day lives should consist of trusting in our Father, REGARDLESS of the fiery trials and hardships that pepper our paths. We are told to DO GOOD WHILE WALKING THROUGH those times!! We don’t stop and sit down in the middle of our journey because we are facing great hardships or heartache and wait for it to pass. NO! We DO GOOD while navigating through it! We should be looking for opportunities to help and serve others! Looking outside of our own selves! There is no greater blessing nor greater joy than to help others see our loving, compassionate Father through us (as we are ambassadors for Christ). Remember, our lives are living sacrifices for our Lord. Romans 12.:1, “ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies, a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable SERVICE.”. To be a living sacrifice demonstrates someone who is genuinely grateful for what they have received from God our father and acknowledges His true faithfulness!! The goal is for us to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice for his SERVICE here on the Earth! It is not enough to just walk around, throw a few scriptures out, check in at the local church and call yourself a Christian. We are told to DEMONSTRATE (that’s an action!!) our dedication by going places and doing things for the cause of Christ! Our goal each and every day should be to fulfill Christ’s plan and purposes in this world and not let the burdens of this journey keep us from that! With all this in mind, “doing good while walking through” we can then continue in verse 4, when we are delighting ourselves in our Lord pursuing his purposes here on earth THEN he will give us the desires of our heart! The interesting thing about this is as we line ourselves up with his plan and purposes for this world, he plants those desires and destiny’s in our heart, and those are the desires of our heart that are fulfilled… Eternal ones!!!
