In Troubled Times
John 14: 26, Jesus is speaking to His disciples telling them not to be troubled…..”But the Comforter, (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name (in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf), He will teach you all things….”. This passage of scripture has been rolling around in me for months. It is so comforting and relieving to know the Holy Spirit is with me day in and day out.
“The definition of “troubled” is described as: beset by problems….now that is a word that certainly can describe the world today! Both individually and in our society. If we aren’t careful we can get too focused on the problems and set backs and miss what Jesus has already told us and provided for us. We’ve been given an amazing gift to navigate through our troubles….the Holy Spirit! Here’s a few words/definitions that might help to refocus and leave those troubles behind.
Helper- One that furnishes or administers a remedy. To come along side.
Comforter- One who strengthens and supports the mind in distress or danger.
Advocate- To plead the cause of another.
Intercessor- A mediator.
Strengthener- That which increases physical and moral strength.
Teacher- One who instructs.
Guide- To conduct in a course or path.
Counselor- Any person that advises another in regard to his future conduct and measures.
THIS IS WHO THE HOLY SPIRIT IS!! He comes along side of us….through our whole journey in life. He strengthens us in our distresses and in times of danger. He is our mediator before our Father and instructs us in our paths and futures…..HE IS OUR COUNSELOR! He advises us in our directions, decisions, and choices throughout our lives so we can walk the paths that the Lord had planned for us. Ya see guys, we each have a destiny, a specific path God intended for just you …just me. And with that destiny He gave us a “navigator” to get us there. He counsels us, leads us, prompts us, illuminates for us and comforts us along the way. So in ‘troubled” times….. stop, get quiet, and ask the Holy Spirit to come along side you and HELP. I literally ask the Holy Spirit to help me with everything…yes, even with what would seem silly to ask for help …. I ask. And He is ALWAYS faithful to come to my aid!!
Ask…..He’s waiting!!!
