Solo
You ever feel like your running solo through this unpredictable, topsy turvy, valley and mountain top journey we call life?? Well, I can tell you I do at times!! Sometimes it gets down right exhausting and flat out lonely living this christian life as the days become darker and God is pushed further out of this worlds view! I find myself relating to the prophet Elijah. In 1 Kings 17 Elijah the prophet comes onto the scene out of no where. His sudden, unannounced arrival comes from God himself during a time of gross evil and wickedness (sound familiar in today’s world?) Now at this time there had been a very long line of godless men “sitting on the throne and incessantly doing evil in the sight of the Lord”. God was done….his People refused to turn back to him. So out of a remote, back woods place, God chooses Elijah to go and stand up and speak to the king and attempt to WAKE the people up! Elijah went before King Ahab (who, by the way was “more wicked then them all”). Definitely not an easy nor safe thing to do at this time. But Elijah obeyed God!!! Right out of the shoot he doesn’t hesitate, he doesn’t debate with God, he doesn’t go the opposite direction like Jonah (or maybe us at times?). He is unafraid, unintimidated! He follows no protocol, makes no introduction of himself, and makes no room for the care of who King Ahab is….he simply arrives, speaks what God said to speak and leaves. Elijah, just as we should be, was uniquely used by God! He didn’t need an entourage, he didn’t need to go pray about things, he simply obeyed God. He sounded the alarm of the evil, sleeping people trying to wake them from an indifferent, hostile way of life. With that in mind, we christians should not be blending into society while it clearly is not only indifferent to God and his ways, but actually quite hostile toward the things of God. Ask yourself……where is my allegiance? Am I willing to stand alone in a very indifferent world? We need homemakers, professionals, teachers, public figures who will promote the things of God, who are willing to stand alone in the integrity of God’s word. The Lord is searching for people (His children) to make a difference!(Ezekiel 22:30). In this season that we find ourselves….. let’s show our allegiance and love for our amazing savior by loving where there is no love, showing kindness where we’d rather not, standing tall for the values of God, being generous outside of our comfort zones, and serving one another as we stand and shine the light of our God and savior ……the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!!
SELAH!!!! (pause and think about it)
