The power of Stillness
Stillness… a word that is pretty ordinary, kind of regular, and completely opposite of the world that we see in this season of society! Right now in the world we see fear, chaos, hatred, and unrelenting bickering. Ohhhh how deafening! Yet in the life of every child of God there should be “Stillness” ….. a very powerful word and place for every believer! Psalm 46:10 tells us “Be still, and know that I am God.” Amidst the darkness and chaos there is a place offered to each of us as children of God to “come away” (in that “hollow” place) and to hide in the restful place of our Lord! Let me share a short little nugget about this little unassuming word “stillness” . There was a lecture given by a scientist to his students in regards to a flame experiment. He wanted to show that in the center of each flame there is a “hollow”… A place of ENTIRE STILLNESS and around it’s fire is a MERE WALL. To prove his theory correct, he introduced in the midst of a flame a carefully shielded charged explosive powder. The shielded protection was then carefully removed and no explosion followed. A second time in the experiment the scientist created a slight agitation of the hand in the center of the flame causing an immediate explosion as a result. Children of God… Our safety is in the stillness of our soul, and the rest in our Lord regardless of what is going on around us. He has set us in the middle of this place where we have protection, and we can have quietness in the midst of chaos. So if you feel like you’re in the middle of the fire, and you feel like your protection has been removed… It has not!!! There is that “mere wall” ….. our Almighty God present! You are still protected, HE is still there with us! We see this scripturally proven in the story about Shadrach, Meshach, and AbedNego when they were forced into the firery furnace for not bowing down to idols in Daniel chapter 3 verse 25…..”Look he answered, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the son of God”. We may be amidst the fire but we’re in the “HOLLOW” protected by our Father and the angels that he has given charge over us!
I will end with a quote from Thomas Reade (1776-1841) an author and truly deep man of God. “Come then oh my soul, and learn from this view of the thy privileges, the blessedness of trusting in God. He changes not, nor knows the shadow of a turn (James 1:17). All his promises are yea and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20). All his ways are righteous and true (Deuteronomy 32:4). Cast thy care upon him who careth for thee (1 Peter 5:7); and, under EVERY TRYING EVENT, BE STILL, and know that he is God.
Be still my friend, God is with you!!!! We are “Hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).
