The Pause
As I was reading today I found myself in the book of Exodus and found an interesting thought. Exodus 16:1, “ They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is BETWEEN Elim and Sinai.” As I read this passage the little, seemingly insignificant word “between” glaringly stared back at me! Immediately I thought of the journey I’m on ….. you know, like your journey, our destinies, our calls. And on these journeys there are those unexplainable times, the “in between” times from point A to point B. Wherever point B is (this is where the crying, confused look emoji should be placed!) Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of where your going because the here and now takes up all your present thinking. Sometimes it gets tiring pressing forward with no change in sight, no evidence that things are moving into place. It’s these “in between” times that can become frustrating or even cause you to lose hope of the dream or mission. But, it’s in these times (the in between times) that we need to keep a holy anticipation, an eagerness for what God has in store for us next! In Exodus 16 it describes the Israelites traveling from Elim to Sinai but were stuck in the wilderness, which is commonly known as a barren, dry territory (definitely not a desirable place)!! But what we have to remember Is that these in between times are necessary. They are the very bridge between what God has done for us in the past, all his blessings, all his provisions, and what he’s preparing for our future. This in between time is most important. We have to ask ourselves are we willing to stay committed, faithful to our journey, following the leading of the Holy Spirit with a sense of holy anticipation and eagerness for what God has! So if you find yourself in this “in between” place, trust that He’s positioning you!! Stay fully engaged and hopeful because these times are not a waste, they are necessary!! This phase of the journey will be well worth the in between time!! Elim was yesterday (remember all the times God has shown up for you- be thankful), Sinai is tomorrow (The dream, the mission)… But for now if your in between….. embrace it and continue!!! Remember….God’s got this!!!
