Stories
Stories… We all have them! You know, those stories that run like a movie reel threw your mind over and over and over. Those stories that MAGNIFY when you’ve been done wrong, when someone’s been unkind to you, when someone’s treated you unfairly, when someone speaks untruths about you or gossips about you! Our human tendency is to let that story reel through our minds over and over hyping up how it makes us feel, how we would respond, and more than likely how we would retaliate back! You see, the Bible teaches us NOT to think on these things… The stories that envelop our attention and our time play perfectly into the enemies evil scheming! The Bible actually tells us exactly what to think in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy— MEDITATE on these things. Pick ONE….any of them….pure, praiseworthy, lovely ….just whatever you do ……DON’T meditate on the negative stories!!
Remember… the Bible also tells us we are to love our neighbors and that we are to pray for our enemies! So here’s a little nugget for you… I have found more recently in my own life that any time “a story” starts to reel……I immediately cast it down and say …..”NO STORIES”! AND…..I immediately pray for them!! (That kind of attitude pummels the devils plans and schemes!!). The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 “to cast down all imaginations and thoughts that exalt itself against the knowledge of God and bring them into captivity.” That means we are to take hold of those thoughts, get rid of them, throw them out… No stories!!!! John 10:10 says the thief (satan, the devil, YOUR ENEMY) comes to steal, kill and destroy… And when we entertain these stories he steals our peace, kills our joy, and destroys our relationships!! There is not one positive thing that comes from dwelling on stories!! There is however, many positive things that come from dwelling on things that are true, things that are pure, things that are good!!! So start policing your stories and think on the right things because it’s these things that change your whole attitude and outlook every single day!
