Conversion of the Heart

It’s funny, have you ever noticed that the “experts” can really complicate things? They just seem to have this special talent of making things so much harder than they really ought to be! Take for instance, Moses……He came down off Mount Sinai after meeting with God and brought with him the 10 commandments. Now, fast forward, by the time of Jesus’s earthly ministry the 10 commandments had evolved into 613 laws! Now, that’s complicating things!! Holy Smokes!! And I might add….these were laws in place for every day life! YIKES!!!! Ya, I would have never made it off my knees if Jesus hadn’t simplified things!!

Let’s try to understand what simple in the realm of our faith really is. Jesus’s life and teachings were a representation of God’s priorities. He simply wanted to help us understand and line up our priorities with His! Notice in all the parables, Jesus dove straight into the heart of things….He always pointed to the conversion of the heart… NOT THE EXTERNAL, CEREMONIAL NONSENSE!! He on purpose used parables and metaphors so people could simply apply these Godly priorities/characteristics to their lives! Contrary to the religious leaders, Jesus was always pointing to a conversion of the heart and not trying to clean everyone up from the OUTSIDE IN! It’s an INWARD WORK that God does! And it’s not complicated….people just make it complicated.

While in the midst of our outreach ministry, God always drew people to us that were colorful, confused, unloved, unpolished and lost! I would always tell my children, “God cleans each of us up from the inside out! Meaning, We love, embrace, encourage, and point people to God our Father, Jesus our Savior, and HE DOES THE WORK!!!! When our hearts change and see God, everything begins to flourish from there.”

So, let’s remember to cut not only others some slack, but ourselves as well. God already knows we are not perfect ….. He already knows all the shortcomings we have….and HE STILL LOVES US!! Take the time to let HIM show you how much you are loved…ask HIM to show you and quit trying to FIX yourself ….. HE’LL DO THE FIXING!!!
