Potter’s Wheel
Jeremiah 18:1-6
“The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, Go down to the POTTER’S SHOP, and I will speak to you there. So I did as He told me and found the POTTER working at HIS wheel. But the jar HE was making did not turn out as HE had hoped, so HE crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. Then the Lord gave me this message: O Israel, can I not do to you as this POTTER has done to HIS clay? As the CLAY is in the POTTERS hand, so are you in MY hand”
So let’s take a look at this passage. Understand the POTTER is God. The scripture tells us the POTTER “God” was working at HIS wheel NOT JUST ANY OL’ WHEEL. Now, the Potter (God) was not satisfied that the “jar” (that’s us folks) wasn’t turning out quite the way HE intended. So He crushed it and STARTED OVER. Please understand God is not this big mean Ogar waiting for us to make mistakes or waiting to point out how badly we mess up. BUT BECAUSE OF HIS DEEP LOVE FOR US…. He allows the buffeting waves of life to come in …… and crush us, more like bring us to a screeching halt so we can START OVER and begin afresh to BE WHAT HE FULLY INTENDED FROM THE BEGINNING! The beautiful thing about this is if you can picture a clay pot…. with all kinds of cracks ….deep, long, some more severe then others and God steps in and carefully and gently begins filling in those gaping holes and trenches we have created in our own lives! I can see Him carefully filling in the gaps, smoothing them over to create this amazing art piece (that’s us!) this art piece HE ALWAYS INTENDED YOU AND I TO BE!
Ya see, God isn’t in the crushing business but He is in the REFINING business…. and if we will just allow HIM to fill in all those cracks in our vessels…. well, then we will see the masterpiece He originally created each of us to be!
Go be that Masterpiece the Potter created!!!
