As the Darkness Fades
Howdy Gang…..
I wanted to take a moment to follow up from our last Blog. It’s funny how God continues to just help us keep things in perspective. What I mean by that is as I still ponder about Jesus being the “Light” of the world and how He has placed that light on the inside of us through His Holy Spirit, to shine …. I continue to see this picture in my mind…..
While I was growing up we had a cabin up north in Wisconsin. It was my SAFE place, my peaceful place, MY favorite place, HOME to me!! When we were young we’d hang out late at night with friends (Yes, we could run freely at night in those days) sometimes running down a pitch dark dirt road, sometimes running through the beaten down, 1 mile path made by our zillion trips to one another’s cabins, scaring the flippin’ snot out of eachother, and sometimes just laying in the acres and acres of prairie looking up at the sky on a clear, star filled, moonlit night. Interestingly, I can remember and still sense that intimate, peaceful place only God and I shared!! In those moments, I would stare up at the sky, at the stars and the moon, and as I stared at those stars and that moon they became so clear and so bright! Those nights with the sky so full of light ….. I could vividly SEE, actually see. I could see the silhouette of the rolling hills, the tall grass blowing in the evening breeze, and my focus on the moon was so crystal clear that I didn’t even notice the darkness around me! That gets me thinking …..don’t you think that’s how God wants us to SEE (Focus on) Him? Doesn’t it make sense that when our deliberate focus is on the LIGHT (God) ALL THE DARKNESS FADES AWAY?
Ya see, we found ourselves talking in our life group about Jesus (light) as the actual centerpiece of life and as we “Seek first …HIM” (Matt 6:33)…. the ISSUES of life seem to just fall away. Got any issues?? Oh boy, I know I can’t even begin to list mine!! Get this folks…. the issues just slowly fall off and fade away as we get closer to the LIGHT (GOD OUR FATHER). The darkness fades and the light becomes stronger and more distinct! WE DO NOT, I REPEAT…. WE DO NOT “clean ourselves up”, WE DO NOT “try to fix things”, WE DO NOT TRY AND GET RID OF OLD LIFESTYLES, BEHAVIORS, ADDICTIONS, ATTITUDES……this would completely nullify GRACE and all Jesus did at the cross!! Please understand I am NOT saying to sit on your lazy behind and not do a thing …..read God’s word, listen to teachings, talk to your Father and allow time for Him to talk to you! But know this…. HE is the only ONE that can make those eternal changes in us!! The bible says, in Hebrews 12:2, “LOOKING UNTO JESUS…..the Author and Finisher of our Faith.” LOOKING, FOCUSING, SEEING HIM!! HE writes our stories and it’s IN HIM THAT WE ARE MADE COMPLETE!!! So, come as you are! Quit striving, pressing, pushing, and “TRYING”. Oh God quit TRYING!!! Let go and let Him fix you, fix your issues, clean you up, and create that beacon of light (grace, graciousness, kindness, humbleness) the world so desperately needs to encounter!! Come to a simple trust in our Lord and Savior and LET God do what HE does best!! Let HIM SHINE THROUGH YOU AS THE DARKNESS FADES FROM YOU AND THE TRUE LIGHT OF THE WORLD BEAMS FROM YOUR VERY BEING!!!
Ephesians 3:19 ….. “That we may come to KNOW HIM”….. that and only that will cause the world to pause a moment and actually see God!!
