Saved or Saves?
Ya know that song….well, pretty much everybody does, “Amazing Grace”? Well, that’s just been rolling around in my spirit for weeks! I sing it all the time, I hear it all the time, but there’s something that stops me every time that I’d like to share with you.
So, the chorus goes like this….”Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.” As I listen to that song and sing along, I find something that stirs in me every time that the word saved is sung. When I sing it, I actually sing it as, “that saves a wretch like me”. The reason I sing it that way is because It reminds me of that scriptures that says, “His mercy endures forever”/”His mercy is new every morning”! (Psalm 100:5) How beautiful is that?
Each day we get a brand new start!! Each day, no matter the mistakes, no matter how bad we mess things up, no matter how far we would fall…His mercy is fresh every single day!! I don’t know about you, but that’s really good news to me!!
After reading and studying about the amazing Apostle Paul, all he did for the kingdom of God, and yet, he called himself “the chiefest of sinners”! Why is that? Why would a man who is a world changer with such tenacity for Christ refer to himself as the “chiefest of sinners”? Well, I believe Paul had a revelation of God’s AMAZING GRACE!! He was a man, that in our day would be considered to be in the same arena as Hitler. His life’s mission was to track down Christians and kill them! He was on his way to Damascus when God “knocked him off his horse”, changed his life in a moment. I am sure as Paul got himself a little visit from heaven and began to have some understanding of how far off from the truth he was, how far off from his divine destiny he was, and how forgiven he was, he began his journey of understanding amazing grace! I believe not only did God save him in that moment but throughout Paul’s ministry on earth he lived with the understanding of how deep amazing grace will reach!! As he called himself the chiefest of sinners, he remembered how far away from the truth he really was and never forgot that! He was probably very mindful of “His mercy endures forever/His mercy is new every morning!!”
“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saves a wretch like me!” He saves us over and over and over! Day after day, mistake after mistake, mess after mess! Sure, we have that point in time where we turn from our disastrous lives and get saved. But God, our Heavenly Father, by and through His amazing Grace and unending mercy, just keeps on saving our little ol’ selves!!
HE NEVER EVER EVER GIVES UP ON US!!
Now, I don’t know about you, but for me….that’s something to be endlessly grateful for!! So, next time you find yourself singing that song….sing it loud, sing it free, sing it from the bottom of your soul.
AMAZING GRACE HOW SWEET THE SOUND THAT SAVES A WRETCH LIKE ME
