The Old Familiar
When your security is threatened ….and you feel helpless, hopeless, frustrated, scared and attacked ….where do you turn?
Do you go into “survival mode” and retreat back to old familiar habits and ways?? Do you do the, ” I can handle this…. I TAKE CARE OF ME.…NO ONE ELSE DOES! I’M THE ONE WHO PROTECTS ME!”?
Or maybe you run for the hills back to what you know even if you know it’s outcome is NOT AT ALL WHAT GOD INTENDS FOR YOU?? Familiar can sometimes be deadly when things aren’t in their proper perspective!
Interestingly, the word security is defined as:
1. The state of being free from danger or threat, TO FLEE TO FOR PROTECTION (Strongs Concordance)
2. A private police force that guards a building.
I find it really interesting that the word “security” describes a very familiar picture of Christians sometimes…. we police our own lives, guarding our own houses… aka… our own selves…. making us the MAN IN CHARGE. BIG MISTAKE!! As if we are any match at all for the enemy of our souls …BY OURSELVES! Catch that…. BY OURSELVES!! WE ARE NO MATCH ALONE!
Let’s really take a look at this. If the word security describes “free from danger, AND TO FLEE TO FOR PROTECTION…. ask yourself this…. Am I able to keep MYSELF free of danger? Am I the one that can protect, guard, and guide ME??? Am I the one that can place me in peaceful, calm waters??? Here, I’ll answer that for you…..NO!!! The ONLY SOLID, SURE, SECURITY is in Jesus Christ!! Remember we’ve talked about who Jesus is to and for us… WONDERFUL COUNCELOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE, REDEEMER, DELIVERER, PROTECTOR, KING OF KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!!! (And on and on).
So for those of you that like to sometimes, or maybe all the time, get in the driver’s seat ….. let me save you from a whole lot of messes…. Don’t be the “Man in charge”!! You will fail, you will fall, you will come face to face with disaster if you think you take care of you!! Because you see, at the end of the day, IT IS HIM THAT IS OUR SECURITY!! Don’t take matters into your own hands, ask God in ALL things to help you so you get used to your security lying with HIM!!! Let Him be the MAN IN CHARGE! Let Him be your security!!
Take some time and get your bible out and look at ALL the names of God. Think on all those attributes…. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR RELIANCE FROM THIS FALLIBLE EARTHEN VESSEL (you and me) TO A SECURE, INFALLIBLE FULL OF GRACE LIFE!!(IN HIM)
Start with Isaiah 9:6, as well as Psalm 91 (what a beautiful picture of SECURITY!!!!) …. look up the words that are used to describe our Father! It will change you, I promise!
