Building Character -Patience
Lamentations 3:26
“It is good that one should hope and WAIT QUIETLY for the salvation of the Lord”
This scripture is teaching us that to wait patiently is to wait QUIETLY and SUBMISSIVELY !!
A very key part of our children’s character is PATIENCE!
While Love, Joy, and Peace are fruits that dwell within and permeate outwardly from each of us as we grow. Patience, Kindness, and Goodness, on the other hand, are virtues that we extend or better said, our children can “practice” acting out in their every day lives!
Now of course It can be quite the task to carry on a conversation with a young child tugging on your shirt REPEATEDLY saying “mommy” fourteen times! I know none of you have ever encountered that 😂! And then we complicate matters worse by of course roaring, a snarky response to them to “just hang on 😳”!! All the while knowing our PATIENT RESPONSE obviously should be more like….”just give mommy/daddy a moment, please wait patiently”. Simply having your children learn to quietly WAIT while talking to someone, WAIT while busy with something, or WAIT to have that treat later will create a submissive, obedient child! Of course this requires PATIENCE from US!! I know your all sighing huge sighs!! But we are required to be patient EXAMPLES!!! Remember children love follow the leader, they copy EVERYTHING!!! Staying consistent with this principle creates Godly virtue (behavior showing high moral standards)!! If you do the groundwork while they are young and they learn to be submissive and obedient; then when your child enters those tough times of middle school and high school that foundational principle is in place already. Children learn to trust that obedience. It makes them feel safe and secure. So when it comes time to talk about important life issues , choosing Godly friends (pier pressure), not dating every boy/girl in the class, and caution them about waiting for marriage to have sex, they have already learned the route of patient obedience! Understand that it’s patience that creates that Godly virtue and that it’s not only an important thing to obey parents, but a safety net that creates an easier and safer path for them to walk!! Let’s do the groundwork now so our children can produce abundant FRUIT in the future!
